HISTORY

Huntly North Cricket Club is the amalgamation of two proud clubs, North Bendigo Cricket Club and Huntly Cricket Club.

North Bendigo cricket club originally joined the Bendigo District Cricket Association in 1956, the club had many successful Senior seasons, but, by 2000 they struggled for junior numbers. The proximity to nearby cricket clubs and hence a reduced catchment area was identified as the reason.

At the time Huntly was experiencing rapid growth and had a full complement of Junior teams but no Senior division. This presented the unique opportunity to amalgamate the two teams. In 2001 the clubs merged to become Huntly/ North Bendigo Cricket Club and made Strauch Reserve Huntly their home.

More recently the club became known as Huntly North Epsom Cricket Club and have enjoyed great Success with both their Senior and Junior divisions. North Bendigo’s first Premiership was won in season 1968/69 under Ian Aitken, when North Bendigo defeated Golden Square.

The club took Honours again in season 71/72 defeating the Maristians over 4 days of Cricket. Again, in season 72/73, this time under new coach John Turner. This was the season life Member Shane Cowling won a Premiership in his first season.

18 years later after a sensational career Cowling tasted Premiership success in season 90/91. Another premiership was won in season 2018/19 And in season 2019/20 we won our first Twenty 20 Premiership.

Huntly cricket club Juniors Premierships in U/14B in 1990/91, U14B 2017/18, U16B 2018/19, U14A’s 2019/20

From season 2022/23 onwards to honour the history of the two founding clubs we have adopted the name Huntly North Cricket Club. We look forward to many years of continued success while maintaining a focus of engagement, equity, inclusion, and fun.
